What age do you feel is appropriate for a child to get a phone? My teenage boys bought my 9 yr old a phone for Christmas. She was thrilled! It is a prepaid phone, so once the minutes run out she will have to buy more or not use it anymore.

In my opinion, high school age is an appropriate age to have a cellphone. Even so, they should be given proper rules and regulations in using their cellphones. Younger children do not really need them.

I think probably middle school is a good time for kids to start using cell phones but I think it ultimately depends on certain situations. As you want to make sure your child has a communication tool if they are in certain situations such as riding the bus or walking to school. So I think it really depends on the case but I would say typically middle school age.

I think its better to buy if you think the kid needs it...no matter what age ..as long as the kid knows how to use it for direct communication with the parents especially if the kid is at a school ...

My friend gave her daughter her very first cellphone when she turned 7. I guess it depends how responsible a child can take care of her things, regardless of the age. Nowadays, we see a lot of teenagers yet they still do not know how to take care of their personal belongings.
