Airtel’s New VoD digital TV app launched n Nigeria- Airtel TV
Airtel Nigeria has recently launched a new Video-on-demand mobile digital TV app called Airtel TV in Nigeria. Airtel without a doubt is one of Nigeria’s biggest telecommunication network airtel and internet service provider has just launched her new product Airtel TV in Nigeria.
Airtel is the user’s choice when it comes to telecommunication service in Nigeria, they have added quite a good number to their subscriber base in the past few years with their improved broadband speed, durable and lasting data subscription, improved tariff and cost-effective data pricing, In a nutshell, the company has successfully established itself as one big force to be reckoned in the digital space as far as Nigeria and Africa is concerned.
They are driving yet further into the Nigerian mobile and internet space and now they are introducing a new product called Airtel TV.
I know you may be thinking this is another iflix or Netflix on the mobile with monthly subscription, but in the case of Airtel TV is subscription-free to use the app, the company boasts that the app would be the last you would have to try to keep up with your latest entertainment contents such as live sports, music videos, movies and more.

But the big question is if the subscription is free, is data also free?? So you get the gist.
The newly launched app is now available to be downloaded on both Google play store for Android users and iOS, the app will require you some permissions before use and you will be requested to use your Airtel number to sign up on the app. Once you are a registered user on the Airtel TV app you have unrestricted access to all contents available on the app as your data permits you to go.
According to a report we caught up with online, Airtel is actively working on agreements with content networks namely Trace
A report says that Airtel has partnered with Trace Africa, Discover Digital, and other content platforms in order to make the app a fun-filled stadia for subscribers.
Airtel cannot be praised as the first Nigerian Telecom to put a music and TV streaming app, earlier last year, 9mobile also launched superTV app which enables her subscribers to watch different entertainment contents in Nigeria.
In the same trend, MTN also launched her own app called- MusicTime! to allow her music-loving subscribers to stream music of their favorite artists and as well have access to —western music and local music.
In the light of these, it can be established that more Nigerian telcos are trying harder to widen their horizon in the digital space by continuously introducing friendly products and services to their customer, it all boils down to one thing- keeping their subscribers on the network and also keeping them engaged with the network.
Cost of Airtel TV Nigeria
As we disclosed earlier, the new airtel TV app is free of subscription, once you register with your mobile, you can start streaming your favorite videos, movies and more and as well keep up with live sporting actions and TV series on the app.
The only cost you’d have borne is the cost of data. Although the price of data in Nigeria is still on the high side when compared with other countries, Airtel is gaining the lead in days subscribers has it does not only have the cheapest data offer, it also offers data that is durable and not quickly zapped like MTN and 9mobile networks.
On the Airtel TV app, the movie library is filled up with latest interesting movies from both Nollywood and India’s Bollywood, the app is not designed for you to download and watch offline, you can only stream contents, we expect a lot more in terms of contents in the Airtel TV library and hopefully, soon their agreements will allow sophisticate the app more for users.
We hope to see more of entertainment contents like Inspiration TV, Bloomberg, Urban, Africa, Mziki, Fashion Box, Bollywood, Nautical, God TV, Tropical, Gospel, Al Jazeera, Gametoon, Sports Stars and more fun channels.
If Airtel can further drive down the price of data as they’ve been doing, it is possible to effectively compete with the likes of Netflix and Iroko TV in that space, simply because no one would like to pay for a thing while others are getting same absolutely free.
